Custom board game packaging that brings your game to life

Board game creation is a large-scale process. Each developer has different methods for creating their ideas and concepts that represent the core of their board games. However, sometimes the enthusiasm of the creators is dampened by unforeseen packaging issues because of some common things that game designers forget or fail to consider when designing their custom board game packaging, box or pieces.

There are several packaging manufacturers, but few can be as creative as Laklé.

What to consider when designing board game packaging

On the surface, creating board game packaging is not very complicated. But like any packaging project, there are things to consider that an outsider may not think of beforehand. For example, the weight of the packaging materials, the mobility of the game box, the design and print quality of the box, not to mention the placement of the pieces (board, pieces, cards, etc.). In some ways, custom game boxes are not that different from product launch kits in everything they need to accomplish.

One of the most effective solutions for standing out from the crowd is the custom cardboard display stand.

Frequently Asked Questions About Custom Game Boxes

Which type of custom game box is right for my board game?

A card game or a small, light game fits well in a foldable cardboard box, which is economical and suited to small formats. For a board game with several components, a rigid box, made of thick cardboard covered with printed paper, stands up better to handling and looks more premium. For a collector’s edition, a rigid setup box can also be considered.

Gather all the components in their final form (sleeved cards, folded board, tokens, rulebook), arrange them the way they will be stored and measure the whole set. Add a small margin so the box closes without forcing, and leave room for a possible expansion. A box that is too large lets the pieces move around during shipping and increases cardboard and shipping costs. Our team can help you with our packaging design services.

Board game packaging is opened, stacked and carried regularly, so the finish has to withstand scuffs and fingerprints. Lamination or varnish protects the print, and you can add texture with stamping, embossing or debossing to make the title or logo stand out. For rigid boxes, the wrapping paper (textured, colored or printed) also offers a very wide range of looks.

For foldable boxes, there is no minimum order quantity, but the fewer boxes you order, the higher the unit price. For a rigid box, tell us your target quantity in your quote request and we will suggest the best option.
